Here I am, homebound due to Covid-19, trying to port successful thinkorswim's thinkscript strategies for futures and forex to QuantConnect and they fail miserably :(

Hang in there Michael, take it as a good sign. It just means the strategy is getting backtested well.
Most of these are newly listed alphas with no track record and the asking prices are unrealistic, and just because the asking price for the alphas is high, doesn't mean they'll get executed at that price. We've built in a bidding system so funds can make an offer to interesting alphas which should soon normalize the prices.

  I've been wondering: Normally what should a realistic price of an alpha be? Can we see a list (probably with some sensitive info removed?) of purchased alpha (or perhaps simply a list of prices paid) just to get an idea?

We suggest standard pricing of $100/$250 for an Alpha with no out of sample track record. Once they have been running for a few months and you have a fund interested in the idea you can increase it over time.
