I looked in the Docs and Google searched but I could find no results for how to do this. I need to know because I sometimes get "Invalid" orders when I din't have enough equity.
Also is there a way to send a MarketOrder by percent of equity or total price rather than number of shares to buy? I have also looked for this but haven't found anything, so is it impossible or just not documented?

You can use self.Portfolio.TotalMarginUsed and self.Portfolio.MarginRemaining to check the available margin before submitting orders.
SetHoldings(symbol, percentage_weight) allows you to use weight to place the market order.
Alternatively, you can use
quantity = self.CalculateOrderQuantity(symbol, percentage_weight)
self.MarketOrder(symbol, quantity)
