Hello,
Regarding micro futures intraday breakout trading, currently, QuantConnect does not support micro futures like MES for backtesting or live trading. This is due to the fact that these securities are not modeled in Lean, the engine that powers QuantConnect. All securities need to be added to the Symbol Properties Database, and futures need special modeling related to expiration and margin. You can follow the progress of this feature on this GitHub issue (source).
As for the recommended compute nodes, it depends on the complexity and requirements of your algorithm. QuantConnect provides a range of options, from 512MB RAM / 1 vCPU to 64GB RAM / 8 vCPU. You can choose the one that best fits your needs.
Regarding the data feed, you can use QuantConnect's data feed and skip the IB data costs. However, if you're doing tick backtesting, IB's 300ms ticks will be different. If you need tick data and IB isn't sufficient then you can subscribe to it on say IQFeed and run LEAN on your own servers (source).
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
